Meet The Musos: Get To Know Adelaide Hip-Hop Talent Sacredd

From a city synonymous with birthing some of the most recognisable artists in the genre i.e. Hilltop Hoods, Sacredd is proving to be a major force in the hip-hop scene thanks to her unparalleled skill and commanding presence. 

Set to define her career as an independent artist in 2023, she joins forces with producer Chief Street and proudly announces the release of her captivating single, Misdemeanour. 

Intended as a statement piece, the up-and-comer's artistry, intelligence and unwavering commitment to excellence are clear.

In the wake of her electrifying performances at Groovin The Moo in April 2023 and a previously unforgettable appearance at Listen In alongside Barkaa and JID, Sacredd's name continues to be associated with some of the best doing it

Delving deep into her personal experiences, Sacredd infuses Misdemeanour with an introspective energy that resonates with listeners.

Following the release of Misdemeanour, we caught up with Sacredd to find out what you need to know about the rising hip-hop talent.

Give us the story behind your name?

A: Sacredd is actually taken from my first ever artist name which was ‘SacredAlbino’. Sacredalbino was thrown together by a good friend of mine as teenagers when we were making a new Xbox live name, as I was often teased as a kid about being very white in complexion lmao. 

When I later started to release music I needed a name and that kinda just stuck, in 2020 I dropped ‘albino’ to avoid any misconceptions and stick with Sacred, I’m also highly spiritual as those close to me would know so it honestly just made so much sense to be known as Sacredd. I also thought the extra D added character.

If your music was a flavour, what would it taste like?

A: Choc chip mint I hope, not for everyone but the diehards that count, you know? Also not sure why I went for ice cream 

Who are some of your biggest musical influences and how have they impacted your own sound and style?

A: My first name to mention will always be Jay Z, his ability to hit punch lines without overcomplicating lyrics, which I think is a real 90’s vibe inspired me from a young age, and I really do feel like that can be observed within a lot of my music. 

It's hard for me to narrow down my biggest influences because I go through phases of who and what I’m listening to. In recent years there’s been a lot of AUS and UK rap influence on both my production and flows from artists like AJ Tracey, Aitch, Jay1, Barkaa, Freesouls, Nerve, etc. 

I’m also a huge fan of artists like Tame Impala, Led Zeppelin, and Lana Del Ray which I feel like inspire me to have more of an abstract approach to my music as a whole. 

What’s been the biggest moment in your career so far?

A: Opening Listen in 2022 for sure, my first ever taste of performing on a huge mainstage, having my name on the poster, and just being present in the environment alongside big names.

What's the most unusual or unexpected source of inspiration you've drawn from when writing a song?

A: This wouldn’t be unusual for other artists, but for me personally I have several tracks or pieces I’ve written this year that were written from some dark places of my psyche, to be honest. 

Which is unexpected and unusual for me, my music inspiration for my writing process prior to all of that has always been very ambitious and action-driven. I try to embrace growth. 

Can you share a hilarious or cringe-worthy moment from your early days as an artist?

A: I’m not sure if this counts but definitely cringe-worthy. I didn’t start making music until I was 17 but when I was 12 or 13 myself and a group of friends decided we would recreate a Flo Rida album cover but call ourselves Glo Lita instead. 

Long story short, we set the timer on my mate's digital camera, posed in a bathroom and boom, ended up with a photo of 4 white girls wearing coloured aviator-looking shutter sunnies (I’m talking 2007 Kanye shades spec). 

I planned on taking that one to my grave but here we are.

What are the top three tracks or artists you’re vibing on rn?

A: Loving a bit of posty at the moment (Post Malone), diving deep into Korn and smashing 2 time zones feat. Night Lovell by Bbno$ this week

What’s something that fans not might know about you?

A: I grew up in a small rural town called Port Augusta, I moved to Adelaide by myself on my 19th birthday. 

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

A: Very hard questions but right now 444 by Jay Z hits a lot of targets for me sonically and lyrically. 

What's in the works for you in 2023?

A: More music!! Excited to say I’m working towards an EP before the year ends which means plenty more content to come.
