Claud takes us on a guided tour through New York City

17 February 2021 | 3:34 pm | Emma Jones

Rising star Claud takes us on a guided tour through some of their favourite places in their hometown of New York City.

Standing at 5 feet tall with green and blue hair (for now), Claud is one of 2021's most exciting rising stars. The first signing to Saddest Factory Records, the imprint on Dead Oceans helmed by Phoebe BridgersClaud has been quick off the mark to cement their presence on this year with the release of their already vastly acclaimed debut album, Super Monster.

A collection of 13 songs which pair entirely relatable stories with precise and expert songwriting, irresistibly charming indie melodies and a thoroughly modern approach to defying people's expectations at every turn, Super Monster is not only a "coming-of-age reckoning with young love," but a triumph for honest self-expression and storytelling.

Claud said of their latest single 'Guard Down', "I have the hardest time opening up and letting my guard down. When I wrote this song, I had just found out somebody I had feelings for started seeing someone else and my immediate emotional response was to convince myself I didn’t care, even though I really did. The verses and chorus sort of make fun of how I keep myself closed off, but my rap towards the end of the song is a super honest stream of consciousness."

To celebrate the release of their new album and get to know them a lot more, Claud has taken us across the pond for a little guided tour through NYC. While its uncertain when travel might be able to happen again, these five gorgeous places plus photos courtesy of Claud will do us just fine for now.

Claud in Rough Trade

Rough Trade

A record store and music venue in Brooklyn where I played one of my first headlining shows. I could spend hours in there looking through their vinyl.

Claud at Riis Beach

Riis Beach

Most of my summer was definitely spent here. It's the only beach I like going to because it's fun and vibrant and the later in the day it gets the more it starts to feel like a dance party on the ocean.

Claud at Electric Lady Studios

Electric Lady Studios

I spent a few days mixing my album at Electric Lady and it immediately felt like home. The rooms are magical and the iconic history there seeps through the walls.

Claud at Prospect Park

Prospect Park

Perfect place to go for dog watching and day drinking.

Claud on the roof

My roof

My favorite thing to do in the summer is climb up the fire escape to get the roof of my building. It's gorgeous up there, especially at sunset.

Super Monster is out now via Saddest Factory Records.
