'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Star Andre Braugher Dies At 61

Andre Braugher, the actor best known for his role as the hilariously deadpan Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, has died at the age of 61 after a brief illness.

Braugher’s publicist, Jennifer Allen, confirmed the devastating news that the legendary star had passed away on Monday (Nov. 10) to Variety on Wednesday (Nov. 13).

No further details have been given at this stage.

Amid the shocking news, friends and fans have paid tribute to the icon, who was also well-known for his award-winning role as Detective Frank Pembleton in ‘90s series, Homicide: Life on the Street.

Former B99 star Chelsea Peretti led the tributes, saying via Instagram: “Love you ❤️ Will miss your dulcet tones. Forever lucky to have gone on such a journey with you. Ringside seat. You were so funny to me and the epitome of still waters run deep.”

“I will always cherish our conversations, often with me hanging in your doorway barring your exit, and the insane opportunity to be your sidekick. Is it weird that I am also grieving for what Captain Holt meant to Gina? I really hoped and knew I would see you again. Hate that I won’t 💔”

“Andre Braugher thank you so fucking much for the unfathomable amount of joy you brought to myself & the rest of the world. raymond holt will forever be one of my favourite TV characters and he will always hold a place in my heart because of you,” one fan penned on Twitter.

Another reflected, “Andre Braugher had a way of speaking like he loved every weird little clause of a sentence like somehow his voice and his gravity could hold onto more separate thoughts and rhythms and linguistic turns than most people could ever hold at once. it was such a pleasure to hear him.”

The actor’s fame had grown in recent years thanks to his stellar performance as Captain Ray Holt for eight seasons alongside Andy Samberg in the hugely popular comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. His performance earned him two Critics Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and he garnered four Emmy Award nominations for the same role.

Deadline reports Braugher was set to star in the upcoming Netflix show Residence, and recently played a role in the final season of the Paramount+ drama The Good Fight, alongside Christine Baranski.

Andre Braugher is survived by his wife Ami Brabson, who also starred in Homicide: Life on the Street and their three children.
