In a wild turn of events, the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) trailer has leaked online ahead of its scheduled premiere.

Rockstar Games, in response to the unauthorised leak, has decided to release the official trailer earlier than planned, confirming a 2025 release date for the game.

Originally slated for an official premiere on Tuesday, December 5, at 9 AM ET (1 AM AEDT, December 6 for Australians), the GTA 6 trailer surfaced prematurely on social media platforms. Users on X (formerly Twitter) discovered the leaked video, prompting Rockstar Games to take swift action by launching the official trailer to counteract the spread of unofficial versions circulating on the internet.

The leaked minute-and-a-half-long trailer, set to the backdrop of Tom Petty's Love is a Long Road, provides a glimpse into the world of GTA 6.

The video features a female character named Lucia, initially in a prison setting, before transitioning to scenes of fast cars, parties, and what appears to be a representation of modern city life on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Whether these scenes are a flashback to Lucia's past or a flashforward remains uncertain. Additionally, Lucia is seen accompanied by a male companion, possibly the second main protagonist named Jason, according to leaks.

The trailer concludes with a confirmation that GTA 6 is set to release in 2025.

The exciting announcement comes as a significant update since the release of GTA V a decade ago, marking a new era for the iconic gaming franchise. The fifth title in the series holds the distinction of being the second highest-selling video game of all time, trailing only behind Minecraft, with sales surpassing 185 million copies.

Last month, Sam Houser, the President of Rockstar Games, expressed his excitement on social media, stating, "We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you."

"Next month marks the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games," Houser added. "Thanks to the incredible support of our players worldwide, we have had the opportunity to create games we are truly passionate about.
