Rumour has it, Fred will play multiple shows in Sydney, Melbourne and at least one on the Gold Coast.

More Fred Again.. More Fred Again..

After weeks of rumours, whispers and ultra-cryptic teasers (which sent our inner conspiracy theorists into overdrive), Fred again.. announced his surprise Sydney show at 9:30am this morning (February 27) – just 12 hours before the show itself kicks off. And of course, the demand for tickets was insane.

Fred will take to the Sydney Opera House later tonight – with doors opening at 9:30pm – performing for some 5,700 punters in the idyllic Concert Hall. It took just three hours for the entire lot of tickets to be snatched up, but within minutes, the venue’s queueing system was completely overwhelmed: at one point in the morning, nearly 120,000 were trying to secure their own access to the gig.

Given this truly wild explosion of hype, we must ask the inevitable question: will Fred announce more shows after this one? Surely he wouldn’t spend 12-plus hours flying to Australia for just one performance.

Sydney fans might be strapped for tonight – the Opera House is booked up for the rest of the week, so he won’t be playing there again (though he could always line up a second venue like he did last year when he played surprise shows at the Hordern Pavilion and Enmore Theatre) but we’ve heard whispers he very well could be putting on an arena show (or two) at Qudos Bank Arena in the very near future.

We’ve also heard from several sources that Fred has secured the 14,800-capacity Rod Laver Arena for multiple performances. The rumour mill has been somewhat conflicted on when those shows are, though a couple of sources have told us he’s locked in at Rod Laver for this weekend or early next week, and will also playing a show PICA in the Victorian capital during this time.

As for the Gold Coast, rumour has it he’s said to perform on March 9 at Doug Jennings Park, while our Kiwi friends are rumoured to be copping a show in Auckland at Spark Arena following Aussie shows — but as we know, nothing is ever truly locked down when it comes to Fred again..

On top of this, we hear that the sneaky muso is planning a few more surprise pop-up gigs around his alleged arena shows — so be sure to keep an eye on his Instagram stories.

Like those aforementioned Sydney gigs from last year, Fred played surprise Melbourne shows at The Forum and The Thorn 3071 while he was here for Laneway 2023. He didn’t play headline shows anywhere else on that run, but we’ve also heard rumours he’ll be playing a show on the Gold Coast early next month.

There’s also been speculation that Fred’s current trip Down Under could be for promotional reasons: as theorised by Fox FM producer Leon Sjogren, he could potentially be drumming up hype before he’s announced as a headliner for this year’s Splendour In The Grass.

Stay tuned for more info as we hear it.
